My Journey
Embarking on my profound journey of healing from relational trauma and grief, I have navigated through the stormy seas of my past, facing the shadows of childhood wounds and the crushing weight of loss. Immersed in the realm of academia, studying Childhood and Youth Work, I stumbled upon a therapy that resonated deeply with my soul, much like the comforting essence of peppermint. Through the lens of culturally responsive psychotherapy, I confronted the deep-rooted scars of relational trauma and grief, courageously challenging limiting beliefs and societal expectations. This journey has been a transformative narrative from a survivor of emotional turmoil to a thriver who embraces their inherent worth with compassion, purpose, and love, embodying the resilient protagonist of their own inspiring story.
Just like Maya Angelou said, "Be a rainbow in someone’s cloud," I aspire for my services to be a source of light and hope for those I walk alongside on their healing journeys.

The Healing Power of Peppermint Plant
Peppermint holds a deeply personal significance for me, stemming from memories of my childhood in Jamaica. This cherished herb embodies qualities of comfort, healing, and resilience, which served as the inspiration behind the name of my psychotherapy business, Peppermint Wellness Therapy. Initially met with skepticism and puzzled looks upon unveiling the name, many questioned the connection between peppermint and mental well-being, often associating it solely with tea and essential oils. Expressing the profound meaning behind my choice proved challenging until my exploration on the Herbal Academy website uncovered a connection to peppermint that exceeded my initial understanding. Exploring the extensive mental and physical health benefits of peppermint, drawing from both personal experiences with the plant and knowledge gained from the Herbal Academy, reinforced my belief in the holistic power of this remarkable herb. Below is an overview of the holistic healing qualities of the peppermint plant.
Digestive Health
Peppermint has long been celebrated for its positive impact on digestive health. It is known to relieve issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), soothe stomach aches, aid digestion, and quell nausea and vomiting from pregnancy, motion sickness, and stress. These digestive benefits have been a personal comfort to me, managing stress-related symptoms and promoting overall well-being.
Nervous System
Beyond its digestive benefits, peppermint has profound effects on the nervous system, which have been instrumental in managing my somatic symptoms related to trauma. As a nervine, peppermint both relaxes and stimulates the nervous system. Its relaxant action calms anxiety and eases tension, while its stimulant action serves as a pick-me-up to recharge energy, enhance mental clarity, and aid concentration. These properties are particularly beneficial for addressing the physical manifestations of trauma.
Pain Relief: Natural Analgesic
The powerful analgesic action of peppermint makes it effective for relieving headaches, toothaches, earaches, and muscle aches, both internally and topically. A clinical trial found that peppermint essential oil mixed with ethanol and applied to the forehead and temples has a significant analgesic effect, reducing headache sensitivity and potentially being as effective as aspirin or acetaminophen.
Respiratory Health
Peppermint’s respiratory benefits are notable due to menthol, a key compound that provides cooling, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and decongestant effects. Used as a steam inhalant, peppermint addresses nasal congestion, reduces bronchospasm, and eases breathing discomfort in COPD and asthma.
Additional Health Benefits:
- Anti-inflammatory Effects: Soothe irritated tissues.
- Antimicrobial Properties: Fight harmful bacteria and pathogens.
- Improved Circulation: Provide muscle and skin relief.
- Immune Support: Aid during fever, colds, and flu.
- Infections: Beneficial for urinary tract infections, gastroenteritis, and herpes simplex.
